Quail Chicks…and Snakes!

Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?” Genesis 3:1

You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, The young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot. Psalm 91:13

“Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Luke 10:19

When I took this picture from my kitchen window of mama and papa quail with their dozen peeps, I didn’t even realize there was something else in the photo with a keen interest in the tiny quail. Not until I looked at the enlarged picture on my computer did I see the predator.

Note the snake lying in the rocks, staring at one of the chicks on the bottom step (see inset picture). Fortunately, the chick appeared to have seen the snake, and it soon scurried up higher, towards the protection of papa quail.

I had not seen a snake, or evidence of a snake, around our house in many years. I didn’t know we had one apparently living near the steps which I and my wife (along with Cosmos the Wonderdog, etc.) often frequent. Try as I might, I cannot tell from this picture if it is a rattlesnake or not. My best guess is no, but I have seen them in this part of the country before.

At the time of this writing, I have yet to spot this particular snake in our yard. If it would leave the quail alone and instead, take care of the occasional mouse which makes its way into our house, I’d be most appreciative.

We know from the Bible account of creation that the enemy of our soul, satan, disguised himself as a serpent and deceived Adam and Eve in the garden. That’s when sin entered into God’s creation, and that’s when all the trouble started.

As noted in the above Scriptures, Jesus tells us that when we believe in Him, we will have authority to come against the enemy of our souls. Since I have had the privilege of participating in Bible studies for more than twenty years inside a prison, I can tell you first hand that this promise is very important indeed.

If you are not sure how to have a relationship with the God Who loves you more than I can ever express, please see Got God?

Hope you have a great day. And watch out for those snakes!
