Blackberries

The eyes of all look expectantly to You, And You give them their food in due season. You open Your hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing. The LORD is righteous in all His ways, Gracious in all His works. The LORD is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth. Psalm 145:15-18

I’ve been blessed to live in many parts of this world, but I have never seen so many blackberries growing in such abundance as where I live now.

I have a friend who is currently serving in South Sudan. We met years ago in Kenya, Africa, and have managed to keep in touch over the decades. Some years back, he and his Mom happened to visit us here in the mountains during blackberry season. I’d been living here for a while, and gotten used to the abundance of berries which occurs toward the end of each summer.

Gabe and his mom were amazed at the bumper crop of the little black jewels growing most everywhere, and they mentioned it more than once. If I’m not mistaken, we picked a bunch of berries for them to take with them on their drive back home.

When I see the blackberries ripening these days, my mind often goes back to that most enjoyable visit, and I pray for my friend and his work in South Sudan. Interesting how certain sights and sounds and smells can trigger various memories stored from long ago.

The above Scripture speaks of an amazing, all powerful God Who provides for His creation season after season, year after year. I hope I don’t take that for granted. I have so much to be grateful for.

The Words above also state that the Lord is near to all who call on Him in truth. Not sure how to have a relationship with this amazing God? Please see Got God?

Hope you have a great day.
