Fawns, Does, and Summertime

For all creation is waiting eagerly for that future day when God will reveal who his children really are. Against its will, all creation was subjected to God’s curse. But with eager hope, the creation looks forward to the day when it will join God’s children in glorious freedom from death and decay. Romans 8:19-21 NLT

Summertime near our house can be an amazing experience. When I look out to our backyard, I never know what I might see wandering through or staring back at me.

There used to be an old apple tree in the timber behind the spot where these two deer are standing. I liked to go there and see what animals might wander past as I took in the breaking of the dawn. Once I was sitting under that tree and reading these same verses from the book of Romans when I saw a doe and fawn walking toward me. The doe stopped about eight feet away, but the fawn took a few more steps closer. I tried not to breathe as they drew so close I could see their black, wet, shiny noses, and even their eye-lashes. We remained staring at each other for what seemed like a long time.

Although that was some years ago, it remains one of my top experiences in the outdoors.

I believe that surreal event is just a glimpse of what’s to come.

I can’t wait.

Hope you have a great day.
