Veterans Day – Freedom

For there is only one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus. He gave his life to purchase freedom for everyone. This is the message God gave to the world at just the right time. 1 Timothy 2:5-6  NLT

Recently the Governor ordered all flags flown at half-mast in my state. For those who don’t know, this is a symbol of respect, mourning, and/or a salute.

A few weeks ago, a Marine from my home state was killed while battling terrorists in the Middle East. I did not personally know the man or his family. And I truly do not know what his family and friends are feeling during this time of loss. I do know this Marine leaves behind a small child and a pregnant wife.

For many in America, it is difficult to image life without freedom. Most of us were born into it, and unfortunately, many take it for granted. That is regrettable. Tragic, actually.

The above Scripture tells us that Jesus purchased our eternal freedom when He went to the cross to take the punishment for our sins and make all who will believe in Him right with God. To be the mediator between a holy God and sinful people. Only Jesus could do this for us, since He never sinned. And the price He paid was horrific as He was crucified on the cross (see Got God).

Freedom is not free.

May God richly bless and comfort those in the military and their families.

I hope you will make it a point to thank a veteran for his/her service in helping keep us free in the U.S. Have a great day.
