Thanksgiving IV – Turkey Surprise

Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed—in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.” “O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?” The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:51-57

A few days ago I was watching a couple of deer in my backyard. The buck walked in and decided to lie down for a while. He was lazily staring forward and chewing his cud when the above hen turkey cruised in from the back woods. The large bird began walking toward the resting buck with the damp leaves apparently muting the sound of her approach as she sauntered along (see insert picture).

I think I’ve mentioned in other posts that turkeys do not seem to be the sharpest birds in the flock, so to speak. They are, however, most entertaining at times.

I watched with growing curiosity as the turkey kept trundling along, seemingly oblivious to the deer lying in front of her. The goofy bird strolled right next to the deer’s side before the startled buck whipped his head around to the left. This quick movement in turn startled the turkey, who jumped away in a bit of a blur.

This happened so quickly that I was fortunate to capture it on film to share with you.

The above Scripture tells of a coming time when the Lord Jesus will return. There is a sober reminder in these verses that when that time arrives, it will happen very, very quickly. In the blink of an eye. By then, there will not be time to discuss things or prepare ourselves. Since no one knows when this will occur, the time to get right with God is now, lest it happen and we be caught unaware and unprepared for eternity.

If you’re not sure how you can be right with God and prepared for whatever happens in the future, please see Got God?

Hope you have a great Thanksgiving season.
