Praying Mantis III

‘Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’  Jeremiah 33:3

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. James 1:5

For many years I have battled with various pests on our tomatoes. As I’ve mentioned before, I’m not much of one to put out poisons in our yard or garden. I’d rather eat something relatively organic that’s not quite as perfect as a fruit or veggie that has been doused with chemicals.

Mantis have a large appetite for garden pests like aphids, beetles, grasshoppers, and yes, even mosquitoes! However, they do not discriminate in their search for food, and may also eat helpful garden insects as well, such as native pollinators like bees and butterflies.

During tomato season time, I found a praying mantis in our yard. So, I picked it up and placed it on one of our tomato plants. This mantis must have liked the place I put her. She stuck around for quite a while, and apparently found an abundant food source in the pests which had been feeding on our tomatoes.

And voila!

I don’t recall seeing any more insect pests, and our tomatoes grew healthy and strong. Visible damage from the pest bugs was nearly eliminated.

I like that. A lot.

Although I don’t specifically remember asking God for wisdom about controlling the insect pests in our garden, I do pray for wisdom every day. And by His grace, that often seems to overflow into many areas of my daily life. I don’t understand how He does this, but He does.

And I am extremely grateful for that.

According to the Bible, this God I’m talking about not only wants to give us wisdom and discernment in our life now, He wants to give us a whole lot more. Like forgiveness of our sins and everlasting life with Him. If you are not sure about that, please see Got God?

Hope you’re enjoying some fresh garden veggies wherever you are.
