Full Moon and the Ridge Saddle

You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected.” – Luke 12:40 NLT

So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. – Ephesians 5:15-16 NLT

Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom. – Psalm 90:12 NLT

On an early summer morning walkabout, Cosmos the Wonderdog and I were alone on a trail near our home. As I glanced up at a mountain on the other side of the river, I was struck by the sight of the full moon, appearing to be cradled in a saddle of the ridge (see photo above).

After taking a quick picture, I looked around in every direction. There was no one else in sight. As I have many times in the past, I thanked the Lord for His gift to me. Of all the billions of people on earth, at that moment, I was the only person to see this unique display of His majesty.

I think that’s pretty special.

Cosmos and I continued a short distance along the trail to its end point, then turned around. As we approached this same area on our return home, I looked up at the ridge again. We had only been gone about ten minutes, yet the moon had disappeared from sight, dropping below the mountain ridge. There was no trace of it ever being visible from where we stood.

In light of the above Bible verses, I think there is at least one lesson here somewhere.

We all have only so much time on this earth with the life we’ve been given. If we miss an opportunity, it may be gone. Gone as in forever. And none of us knows how much time is left on the clock of our lives.

As these Scriptures point out, making the most of every opportunity, realizing the brevity of life so we may grow in wisdom, etc., are a lot more than just good ideas to ponder for a moment and then forget. And if you’ve never gotten right with the One Who made the moon and mountains and a bazillion other things, please see Got God?

Hope you have a great day.
