Butteflies II

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 2 Corinthians 3:17 NIV

So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:36 NIV

So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law. Galatians 5:1 NLT

Have you ever seen a group of butterflies gathered around a puddle of mud? I’ve found that if I move very slowly, I can get to within only a few feet of them before they flutter off a short distance, returning quickly once I move away from the puddle. You should try it sometime if you ever get the chance. It’s kind of a surreal experience.

Nectar – a sugar rich liquid – attracts butterflies to flowering plants for nourishment. But these insects don’t get enough salt from the nectar in the flowers to survive and reproduce.

Butterflies, especially the males, are drawn to mud puddles because the water/mud contains various minerals and salts which they need for reproduction. The salts transferred from the male to the female during mating increase the chances of survival of the females’ eggs.

You can read a bit more about the life-cycle of these amazing creatures in my post Butterflies I –  Another Mystery. You will see in that post that I was able to capture a photo of a large Tiger Swallowtail as it rested on my hand.

People often use butterflies as a symbol of freedom. As the above Scriptures point out, it is through Christ that we are set free to live the life He created us to live, and through Christ that we experience true freedom. If you are not sure how to begin this new life, please see Got God?

Hope you have a great day.
