Buck Moon

Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. – John 17:17 NKJV

You made the moon to mark the seasons, and the sun knows when to set. – Psalm 104:19 NLT

Praise Him, sun and moon; Praise Him, all you stars of light! – Psalm 148:3 NKJV

Thus says the LORD, Who gives the sun for a light by day, The ordinances of the moon and the stars for a light by night, Who disturbs the sea, And its waves roar (The LORD of hosts is His name) – Jeremiah 31:35 NKJV

When I recently took Cosmos the Wonderdog out to do his early morning business, I saw an impressive-looking, golden moon hanging over a nearby ridgetop. After fumbling around inside in the wee hours of the morning to find my tripod and camera, I returned just in time to capture a few pictures before the bright orb slipped behind the ridge.

Smoke from nearby forest fires had filtered out a lot of the blue light spectrum and allowed for more gold and orange color to be visible. That, along with the additional humidity which comes with the summer months enhances this color filtering.

Never Got the Memo

The day before, I had seen a small note on the internet announcing the arrival of a “Buck Moon.” I’d not heard this term before, and ignored the article. But after seeing the moon the following morning, my subsequent internet search revealed a handful of secondary reasons why the full moon in July is called a Buck Moon. By far the most common explanation I found stated that this full moon marks the time that buck (male deer) begin to grow their antlers. Apparently, the deer around our home were as unfamiliar with the term as I was, and never got the memo. These bucks had been growing their antlers for 3-4 months, since the early springtime.

Regardless of what information (or mis-information) man may flood the media with, there is still One Who stays steadfast and true to His Word.

The Lord of Hosts is His name!

If you are not sure how you can have your own personal relationship with this Awesome Creator Lord, please see Got God?

Hope you have a great day!
