Memorial Day – Thanks

“Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” John 15:13

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

I am humbled when I take time to consider what some people have sacrificed so that I can enjoy the freedoms I have in this country. To give my life for someone else is not a decision I’ve ever had to make. I know how I hope I would respond in that situation, but I don’t think I can know for sure what I’d do unless and until that time ever comes.

I have family members and friends who have been in the military, some who have gone into active combat. As I mentioned in an earlier post, The Beating Heart of a Patriot,  my wife and I got to spend time with some wounded Veterans in Alaska recently. Wounded from injuries they received while defending this country.

While defending you and me.

The sacrifices and challenges these folks face, along with their spouses and children, are unbelievable. There are also the sacrifices of parents and other family members and friends when a loved one joins the military and may be sent into harm’s way to defend our freedom.

Others went so I didn’t have to. Many are still going.

It is my sincere hope that if you know someone who has been in the military, or a family with someone who is there now, you will take the time to thank them. Today would be a good day to do that, and tomorrow too. It only takes a moment on our part to thank someone who may have sacrificed a lifetime.

They could use our support.

Thank you Veterans.

Thomas
