Wolf Tracks

Yet he knows the way I have taken; when he has tested me, I will emerge as pure gold. My feet have followed in his tracks; I have kept to his way and not turned aside. I have not departed from the commands from his lips; I have treasured the words from his mouth more than my daily food. Job 23:10-12 CSB

Seeing animal signs and tracks, along with actually tracking the critters, has held a fascination for me as long as I can remember. There seems to be a never-ending story to be read and understood all around me when I take to the woods and mountains.

Wolf tracks differ somewhat from those of a domestic dog. They tend to be more in a straight line, while a dog’s track is a bit more meandering or haphazard. Wolf tracks are usually larger – I once found one where my entire fist could fit inside the track. Now that’s a big wolf! I may post a picture of that if I ever find it again. If observed side by side, the inner toes of a wolf’s print tend to be closer together than a dog’s.

The prints in the photo above indicate that this wolf was trotting when it made these tracks. The smaller hind print is in the lead, and looks slightly off-center. When a wolf is walking, the hind print will register directly on top of the front one. From the prints and other signs, I could tell that these tracks were quite fresh, probably made a few hours before Star the Wonderdog and I arrived.

Whether you like to track animals or not, the above Scripture speaks of Someone Whom we all can follow regardless of where we live. His Name is Jesus, and we are told in the Bible that He gave us an example and showed us how we should live so that we don’t get lost in this life. With so many people yammering about who to listen to these days, I am very grateful to have One to follow Whom I can trust, regardless of where He may lead me.

Not sure how to have that kind of security in your life?  Please see Got God?

Hope you get to see some wild animals and their tracks soon.

Have a great day.
