Ancient Antlers

Remember your Creator before the silver cord is loosed, Or the golden bowl is broken, Or the pitcher shattered at the fountain, Or the wheel broken at the well. Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, And the spirit will return to God who gave it. Ecclesiastes 12:6-7

From what I’ve seen on my hikes, most deer in my area don’t live to be ten years old. Many bones and skulls I find lying on the forest floor are probably closer to about half that age. The wear on the teeth is a good indicator of age, and of course, the size of the skull and bones as well.

I usually don’t find an antler as old as the one pictured above in such good shape. Usually the rodents and other critters gnaw them to pieces as they seek out the minerals in the antler (see Antler Eating Deer).

The above Scripture speaks about the need for us to remember our Creator before life passes by and things return to the earth. Time and life can have a tendency to slip away as days run into months which run into years. And tomorrow is not guaranteed for any of us.

I hope you are ready to meet your Creator. Not sure how? Please see Got God? at my home page.

Hope you have a great day.
