He will give justice to the poor and make fair decisions for the exploited. The earth will shake at the force of his word, and one breath from his mouth will destroy the wicked. … In that day the wolf and the lamb will live together; the leopard will lie down with the baby goat. The calf and the yearling will be safe with the lion, and a little child will lead them all. The cow will graze near the bear. The cub and the calf will lie down together. The lion will eat hay like a cow. – Isaiah 11:4, 6-7 NLT
The day the Lord led us to Cosmos the Wonderdog at the animal shelter, we were a bit dubious at owning a dog as big as he is. The folks at the shelter were kind enough to allow us to take Cosmos to our local vet for an assessment.
Our vet gave Cosmos a quick evaluation. Cosmos was formerly known as “Sausage” at the shelter – they must have fed him a LOT there and he couldn’t get much exercise. Cosmos acted so calm and sedate, we were afraid he was quite old. But after our vet checked him over, he told us that his best estimate was that Cos was only about 1-2 years old.
That was good news.
Then the vet brought out his own dog to see how Cosmos would react. The vet’s dog hid behind his master and commenced to pee on the floor, apparently a bit intimidated by Cosmos’s size. But Cosmos simply looked serenely at the other dog and gently swished his tail back and forth.
We do have a lot of wildlife around our home, and we sure didn’t want to adopt an aggressive dog.
The Cat Test
Suddenly a cat scurried through the gap between Cosmos and our vet. Cos simply perked up his ears and watched it go by, never taking a step toward it or showing any kind of aggression. The vet then told us that we’d be hard pressed to find a shelter dog with the kind of disposition that Cosmos had.
That was even better news.
We prayed for wisdom and ended up taking Cosmos home with us that day. Since then, both our neighbors and the animals we go past on our daily walkabouts seem to sense his gentleness. Most deer take a few bounds away, then commence to watching us go by. Some never even move as we get within a few yards of them. They sometimes just stand there chewing and studying Cos as we go past. Cosmos seldom does more than just look at them and walk on.
The above verses tell of a time when the Lord will rule the earth, and all the animals will be in harmony, regardless of their former roles as predators and prey. Witnessing Cosmos’ interaction with our local wildlife, we believe we have been given a bit of insight into that future time.
I can hardly wait.
And we are so blessed.
And now the best news of all:
If you are not sure how you can have your own personal relationship with the One Who created all the critters and the universe we live in, please see Got God?
Hope you have a really great day.
