Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters Colossians 3:23 NIV
Last year at this time my wife and I were in Alaska working with wounded veterans. The injured military personnel and their spouses come for a week as guests of Samaritans Purse’s Operation Heal Our Patriots. At OHOP, the veteran couples find spiritual/mental refreshment and enrichment for their marriages. Many of these couples struggle daily with lasting effects of traumatic injuries and experiences that can cause their marriages and families to crumble. See Veterans Day The Beating Heart of a Patriot
I was listening to an interview with a couple, Tom and Brandy Wollney, recently. They are both retired military who spent a week at OHOP not long ago. Although they weren’t there when my wife and I were, many of the couples we were privileged to meet had similar stories of courage and faith. Tom was a rescue swimmer with the Navy Seals, and he and his team participated in thousands of rescues. He is now in a wheelchair as he can no longer walk – injuries sustained while defending this country and our freedom. Injuries sustained while helping others who couldn’t help themselves. And from listening to him and his wife, they obviously did what they did with all their hearts, and are continuing to do so.
In fact, I think the last thing Tom said in the interview was: “It’s easy to make it through. Just don’t quit.”
My wife and I were impressed with this same type of courage which we saw in the forty couples we met last year at OHOP. They were and still are an encouragement to us, and fortunately we have been able to remain in contact with some and continue to pray for them.
And as far as a daily reminder for me to do things with all my heart, the Lord has put Stardog into our home. Whether it be swimming or leaping or running or whatever, she goes at it with all she’s got. Her exuberance for life has helped me to do my best when I sometimes feel like cutting corners or giving up.
How are you doing with the challenges in your life lately?
Hope you have a great day.
