“Teacher,” they said, “we know how honest you are. You are impartial and don’t play favorites. You teach the way of God truthfully. Now tell us–is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not? – Mark 12:14 NLT
Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me? Or do you begrudge my generosity?‘ – Matthew 20:15 ESV
And remember that the heavenly Father to whom you pray has no favorites. He will judge or reward you according to what you do. So you must live in reverent fear of him during your time as “foreigners in the land.” – 1 Peter 1:17 NLT
You have tested my heart; You have visited me in the night; You have tried me and have found nothing; I have purposed that my mouth shall not transgress. – Psalm 17:3 NKJV
Ned went to Vietnam in the mid-1960’s. He was a Sargent in the U.S. Army and supervised a crew of men.
Ned saw a quite a bit of combat, and time seemed to just drag on and on. He said that after they had been there a while, his captain told him that it was time for promotions. He told Ned to write down the name of every man who had earned a promotion.
“I had 8 or 9 guys under me, so I put them all down for a promotion. All of them. The captain said that we couldn’t do that. I told him that everyone’s lives are just as good, just as important, as his life is.”
The captain wasn’t too happy with Ned. “I guess some got promoted, some didn’t. But I put them all down.”
Ned was in Vietnam for 360 days. That’s a long time to be away from home – a long time to wonder if you’ll ever get to go home again. He said that “tried and tested” is how he would best describe it.
“I’m sure God was with me, or I would have never made it.”
A lot of young men and women made that same sacrifice throughout the history of our country. When you get a chance, please thank a Veteran for helping to defend your freedom.
And if you’d like to have your own relationship with the God of the universe, please see Got God?
Hope you have a great day.
