Snow Flowers I

God’s voice is glorious in the thunder. We can’t even imagine the greatness of his power. “He directs the snow to fall on the earth and tells the rain to pour down. … We cannot imagine the power of the Almighty; but even though he is just and righteous, he does not destroy us. No wonder people everywhere fear him. All who are wise show him reverence.” – Job 37:5-6, 23-24 NLT

Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up. – James 4:10 NKJV

Do not remember the former things, Nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness And rivers in the desert. – Isaiah 43:18-19 NKJV

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. – 2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV

Wintertime in the Rocky Mountains can be very sunny, and thus be a rather exhilarating time to enjoy hiking or cross-country skiing. But there can also be dark days of low clouds, along with lots of rain and snow. After a long winter, I always enjoy seeing the promise of springtime wherever I can find it. Just glimpsing a hint of spring can lift my spirits, and give me a bit of a renewed outlook on life. And a flower pushing up through the snow is a pretty good hint for me!

Although it may seem counterintuitive (I like that word), snow can actually help insulate the ground and keep it from freezing. Snow on the ground contains pockets of air, and these in turn insulate the soil from freezing winds and temperatures. When a plant begins to be stressed by cold, a myriad of changes take place within it. Different chemical and biological elements begin to make the necessary adjustments for survival. Suffice to say, it is a very complex process. I don’t understand much of it, but I do understand that it took a brilliant Designer to sort it out and make it happen.

The most important change to take place with people is when they decide to humble themselves and trust what Christ did on the cross to pay for their sins so they don’t have to, and make Him number One in their lives. The above Scriptures tell us that if anyone does that, the old has indeed passed away, and all things have become new. And that can happen at any season of our lives, no matter where you are or what you’ve done.

If you are not sure how you too can have this newness of life and a relationship with the One Who created all the universe, please see Got God?

Hope you are seeing signs of spring where you live, and that you have a great day as well.
