but at the place where the LORD your God chooses to make His name abide, there you shall sacrifice the Passover at twilight, at the going down of the sun, at the time you came out of Egypt. – Deuteronomy 16:6 NKJV
Now after the Sabbath, as the first day of the week began to dawn, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it. His countenance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. And the guards shook for fear of him, and became like dead men. But the angel answered and said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. “He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. – Matthew 28:1-6 NKJV
Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD! – Psalm 150:6 NKJV
Critters which are most active as the day begins to dawn, and again shortly after sunset (twilight), are called crepuscular animals.
For the most part, adult skunks behave like that. However, these young skunks apparently didn’t get the memo! We’d see them most any time during our daily walks, and they usually seemed to be in perpetual motion. And when they’d bump into each other, the inevitable wrestling match would take place. Although short-lived, the skirmish often brought a chuckle from my wife and me, as we’d watch them thrash around and tumble down the slope together. Cosmos the Wonderdog would simply raise his ears as he watched, apparently amused as well.
Oh, to have the energy of youth like that once again…
Dawn and Twilight
There were some really important things that happened in the Bible at dawn and twilight, not the least of these contained in two of the Scriptures at the beginning of this post:
The Passover happened when God told His people to offer up a perfect lamb and put some of the blood on the door posts of their home. The sacrifice of this animal, and its blood “covering” for the family inside the home, spared them from certain death and destruction. This was a type and shadow of Jesus, the perfect Lamb of God, Who would one day shed His own blood on a cross for the forgiveness of all who would repent and believe on Him.
Women went to see His tomb at dawn on the first day of the week after His crucifixion. But He wasn’t there – the tomb was empty. Not long after, these women encountered the risen Lord Jesus themselves.
I’d imagine that of all the dawning’s of all the days ever before or since, this one may well have been the most spectacular. When I think about each of the animals and birds etc. in the world that day, I wonder if everything that had breath praised the Lord.
Bet they did. If they didn’t then, I bet they will when He comes back.
Not sure how to be ready for that day? Please see Got God? Hope you have a really great day. And may all your skunk encounters end well!
