Salmon Spawning VI

Moses was 120 years old when he died, yet his eyesight was clear, and he was as strong as ever. – Deuteronomy 34:7 NLT

The kokanee salmon are spawning once again in my part of the world. In prior posts, I’ve mentioned how these fish sometimes spawn in water that is very shallow, or what some fishermen call thin water. They spawn here in spite of the fact that eagles and osprey often cruise overhead, using their keen eyesight to locate their next meal. A close-up of these fish over their spawning gravel can be seen at Salmon Spawning III.

Cosmos the Wonderdog’s keen eyesight has surprised me on many hikes. His ability to see things under the water seems uncanny. In Salmon Spawning V, Cosmos can be seen studying several salmon in water that is not as deep as is pictured above. He spends a lot of time watching these remarkable fish in the river swimming near their nests. In fact, I do too!

What’s He Thinking?

The salmon pictured above drifted from the deeper water and coasted toward us as I was getting ready to start fishing. He stayed just long enough to grab Cosmos’s full attention before he drifted back out into the deep river. I wonder what Cosmos was thinking as he was studying this fish.

The above Scripture tells us that Moses had clear vision when he died at 120 years old. That is amazing to me, especially knowing what a harsh climate he lived in.

Vision is not something I take for granted, and I hope you don’t either. It is a gift, one of many, from the Creator of the universe. If you’d like to know how you can have your own relationship with this Creator, please see Got God?

Hope you are enjoying the season wherever you live.

Have a great day.
