Puddles

Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.” John 4:10

Hiking in the springtime with Stardog can be a thrill a minute. I don’t believe Star has ever met a puddle she didn’t like. She may truly believe all puddles were created for her to cool off and romp around in.

I’ve seen her back up several yards from a large pool and then just run full bore straight through the middle of it, grinning the entire way. After she gets tired of capering around in the water she will often stick her snoot down beneath the surface and blow bubbles for several seconds. Then she will look up at me and grin, water dripping from her muzzle.

We had no idea what a joyous dog Star is when we found her at the animal shelter. Someone apparently dumped Stardog along the road and drove off. I have trouble comprehending the mentality of someone like that.

The woman whom Jesus was speaking to in the above Scripture seemed a bit abandoned and abused herself. Yet Jesus made it a point to reach out to her and offer her living water. He was speaking of eternal life, which He gives freely to all who ask. Jesus seemed to especially reach out to those who the world may have been abandoned or dumped along the side of the road as not being pretty enough or good enough, or smart enough, etc, etc.

I sure am glad He didn’t go off and abandon me somewhere. And I sure am glad He made Stardog and puddles.

Jesus.
