“Behold, You have made my days as [short as] hand widths, And my lifetime is as nothing in Your sight. Surely every man at his best is a mere breath [a wisp of smoke, a vapor that vanishes]! Selah. – Psalm 39:5 AMP
The days of our lives are seventy years; And if by reason of strength they are eighty years, Yet their boast is only labor and sorrow; For it is soon cut off, and we fly away. … So teach us to number our days, That we may gain a heart of wisdom. – Psalm 90:10, 12 NKJV
Walking amongst big mountains can be a humbling experience. The realization that these land masses were here long before I came on the scene, and will be here long after I am gone, helps me keep my life in perspective.
The rounded rock in the top right corner of this picture is actually a boulder the size of a small house. I hiked up there at least twice with our yellow lab Moondog, and once or twice with Stardog. To get there we had to cross a river before I exchanged my waders for hiking boots. It took 3-1/2 hours of steep hiking to get to the top, 2-1/2 to get back down. Needless to say, having exerted so much effort to get there, I don’t recall seeing any signs of human activity.
Just my kind of place!
The ribbon of vapor stretching across the mountainside brought to mind some of the many passages in the Bible in which the Lord reminds us about the brevity of our lives, and encourages us to make our days count. In fact, the man who wrote the words in Psalm 90 – Moses – lived to be 120, and yet he realized the brevity of life.
If you are not sure about having a life of meaning and purpose, I encourage you to see Got God?
Hope you have a great day.
