The LORD is slow to anger but great in power; the LORD will not leave the guilty unpunished. His way is in the whirlwind and the storm, and clouds are the dust of his feet. … The mountains quake before him and the hills melt away. The earth trembles at his presence, the world and all who live in it. – Nahum 1:3, 5 NIV
From a scientific aspect, clouds are collections of small ice crystals and/or tiny water droplets. Because these droplets are so small, they can in fact float in the air. The actual formation of a cloud can be a little complicated to explain, but a simple description of the process is that water vapor from the earth rises as the sun heats the land’s surface. The rising water droplets join with billions of dust particles in the air to form the clouds we see in the sky.
There are several kinds of clouds which I may discuss in a future writing. But for this post, I will just consider the above Scripture passage.
Sometimes when problems loom a bit too large on the horizon (and also in my mind), I find that reading the Bible helps me put things in perspective. Although I’m sure I’ve read it in the past, the above verses are ones I hadn’t noticed until recently.
The clouds I see almost everyday on my walkabouts are described in the Bible as being the dust of the Lord’s feet. I never thought of it that way before.
With Someone like that not only running the universe – but Who actually cares about me – perhaps my problems aren’t nearly as large as I think they are.
I hope when you have a chance to look at clouds on future outdoor adventures, you’ll take time to ponder what His Word says about them.
If you are not sure how you can have your own relationship with the Creator of the clouds and mountains and entire universe, please see Got God?
Hope you have a great day!

Turkeys in the Snow
Thank you Tom. I’ll be looking at clouds a little differently from now on.
Me too! Thanks for taking the time to write.
