For by Him all things were created in heaven and on earth, [things] visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities; all things were created and exist through Him [that is, by His activity] and for Him. And He Himself existed and is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. [His is the controlling, cohesive force of the universe.] – Colossians 1:16-17 AMP
My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip–he who watches over you will not slumber; – Psalm 121:2-3 NIV
As the new year rolls around, many people like to take an inventory of sorts as to where they are in life, and where they’d like to be by the end of the year. I’ve heard of some with noble aspirations, some with seemingly impossible goals, and some who are just grateful to have made it this far!
It is easy for anyone to slip in life, even for birds and animals. From the evidence in the above picture, it looks as if a turkey came in a bit too fast for a landing (or a bit too hot, as pilots like to say), or at least faster than the icy ground could handle. It appears the big bird may have walked around some after its slippery landing, perhaps to settle its nerves while gathering its wits (regardless of how many or few it may have had) back together (check out Turkey Bird Brain).
I wish I had seen it.
The One Holding It All Together
For those who believe in the Bible, God is portrayed not only as the One Who made heaven and earth, but also as the One Who holds everything together. That’s a pretty impressive task.
As is common with the start of most new-years, much uncertainty looms beyond the horizon for many of us. But even without knowing the various challenges coming our way in the near future, the above Scripture tells us that the God of all creation is able to keep our foot from slipping.
I like that.
A lot.
