Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the LORD: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him. For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease. He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection. – Psalm 91:4 NLT
Many critters in the wild have a built-in desire to protect their offspring, at least until the little ones are old enough to fend for themselves. In the above photo, this male quail is perched higher than his family, and is on the look-out for any approaching danger. Meanwhile his mate, the larger female on the righthand side of the picture, leads their newborn chicks to a safe place as they learn to forage for food.
This characteristic of built-in devotion of a parent toward his/her offspring didn’t happen by chance. It came from the Creator Himself. And the remarkable thing with God is that He doesn’t stop caring for His children once they get to be a certain age. He has compassion and care for them right up until their last breath on this earth. And for those who have made the choice to believe on Jesus, that’s just the beginning of the good things God has in store for those who love Him.
A Shelter and Refuge
The Bible often depicts God as a shelter and refuge for His children. Since Jesus walked this earth, He has first-hand experience of all the snares and pitfalls in life that can hurt us. They can disrupt or derail our lives, or even cause a complete disaster for those who get entrapped by them.
I know I can use all the help possible on this road of life. And what better One to ask for help than the One Who is faithful in all His promises, and also has all wisdom?
