Snow Deer

For He says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth’; Likewise to the gentle rain and the heavy rain of His strength. He seals the hand of every man, That all men may know His work. The beasts go into dens, And remain in their lairs. From the chamber of the south comes the whirlwind, And cold from the scattering winds of the north. By the breath of God ice is given, And the broad waters are frozen. Also with moisture He saturates the thick clouds; He scatters His bright clouds. And they swirl about, being turned by His guidance, That they may do whatever He commands them On the face of the whole earth. He causes it to come, Whether for correction, Or for His land, Or for mercy. “Listen to this, O Job; Stand still and consider the wondrous works of God. Job 37:6-14

Depending upon weather conditions, snow can sometimes load branches of trees and shrubs, bending them down towards the ground. That can make high branches a bit more accessible to deer and other such critters (see Deer Stretch). I watched this deer tugging on a few branches as snow cascaded onto her head and back. She didn’t seem too concerned. And I noticed when she let go of a branch, more snow fell off, allowing the branch and tree to be free of the snow burden. I’d imagine the deer may actually help save some trees from eventually snapping off from the weight of too much snow.

“Stand still and consider the wondrous works of God.” I hope you like to do that. It seems especially easy in the winter, when the snow blanket seems to dampen a lot of noise. If you haven’t tried this lately, I hope you will soon.

His works are wondrous.

Have a great day.
