Snow Bird House

Thus says the LORD: “Heaven is My throne, and earth is My footstool. Where is the house that you will build Me? And where is the place of My rest? For all those things My hand has made, and all those things exist,” Says the LORD. “But on this one will I look: On him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, and who trembles at My word. Isaiah 66:1-2

When I have time, I like to build things in my workshop. Some of the things I’ve made aren’t very recognizable, but once in a while something emerges that actually functions for the advancement of the world. Or at least our backyard.

I like to take old wood pallets that are headed for the burn pile and see what I can make. I know someone who lives in a third-world country who actually built an entire house for someone out of pallets. Not a bird house, a people house! I should be so creative.

Bird boxes have been around a long time, probably a couple hundred years or more. They can be made in a myriad of shapes and sizes. Most boxes are made of wood, although materials vary greatly as well. The size of the entrance hole, along with the overall size of the box, determines what species will use the house. Many birds prefer an entrance which is just barely large enough for the adult to pass through. Presumably this helps limit any larger predators from reaching their nest.

Winter is a good time to clean out any boxes that were used the prior year. This helps reduce or eliminate any parasites or unwanted guests. Wasps are notorious for making their nests in my bird boxes, and winter is a fine time to put the kibosh on them.

In the above Scripture, God says that heaven is His throne and the earth His footstool. I can’t comprehend a house that big, nor One Who could live there. Yet as big and powerful as He is, He says He looks on those who are humble and revere His Word. I find it amazing that He would even care. Yet He cared enough to send His Son to die for our sins that we might live with Him forever if we’ll repent and believe on Him.

Jesus.

I am so grateful.
