Rock of Ages

He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. “And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.” Matthew 16:15-18

A friend of mine recently sent me the above photo. He lives not far from where the picture was taken. I guess these rocks can change color depending upon the time of day and the angle of the sun. We should all be so fortunate to have something like this in our backyards.

In the opening Scripture, Jesus was asking His followers who they thought He was. It is interesting to me that they were in a place called Caesarea Philippi when Jesus asked the question. In Caesarea Philippi there was a mountain which held lots of big images of idols from various world religions. Many different beliefs and gods were worshipped there.

Perhaps Jesus brought His followers there to ask them the question about who they thought He was compared to all the others.

This week can be a special time for many people around the world as they take time to consider what the life, death, and subsequent resurrection of Jesus means to them personally.

I hope you’ll take the time today to consider Him yourself.

Have a great day.
