Fawn II

Give unto the LORD the glory due to His name; Worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness. The voice of the LORD is over the waters; The God of glory thunders; The LORD is over many waters. The voice of the LORD is powerful; The voice of the LORD is full of majesty. The voice of the LORD makes the deer give birth, And strips the forests bare; And in His temple everyone says, “Glory!  Psalm 29:2-4, 9

These past few decades we’ve been fortunate to live in a rather beautiful place. I can’t remember when we’ve had a summer go by that we haven’t seen some spotted fawns capering about the yard as they try out their newfound freedom to run like the wind. They like to burst into high gear and speed about the yard, kicking and bucking and twirling in circles as they go. Sometimes they misjudge their speed and run smack into an older deer who is grazing nearby. It seems to me that sometimes the older deer look up to watch Jr. speed off in another direction and simply sigh. It can be tough raising kids these days.

This particular fawn would often lie in a small depression in our backyard and peer at me from just over the rim. It was difficult to sneak up on her to get a picture, as she always seemed to be looking right at me when I had the camera at the ready. After many failed attempts, I was finally able to capture her in the above photo.

I’m sure if I’d been given the opportunity to come up with ideas for creating everything from nothing, I doubt I’d have ever envisioned all the incredible magnificence of what we are surrounded with in the outdoors. Just coming up with the life cycle of the spotted fawns growing up into either a doe or antlered buck would probably have taken me years to figure out, let alone the myriad of other things going on around us (see Fawn). If you haven’t been outside lately, I hope you’ll get a chance to go out and see some of it for yourself before long. Hopefully it won’t be too far from where you are.

I don’t know how God thought of all these things, but I sure am grateful He has allowed me to experience some of it. Hope you can too, and soon.

Have a great day.
